年三月刊の『中学唱歌』に於いて発表された。\n一\n箱根の山は天下の険　谷関も物ならず\n万丈の山千初の谷　前に聾え後に支う\n雲は山を廻り　霧は谷を閉ざす\n昼猶暗き杉の並木　羊腸の小径は苔滑らか\n一夫関に当るや　万夫も開くなし\n天下に旅する剛毅の武士\n大刀腰に足駄がけ　八里の岩根踏み鳴らす\n斯くこそありしか　往時の武士\n二\n箱根の山は天下の阻　蜀の桟道数ならず\n万丈の山千初の谷　前に聾え後に支う\n雲は山を廻り　霧は谷を閉ざす\n昼猶暗き杉の並木　羊腸の小径は苔滑らか\n一夫関に当るや　万夫も開くなし\n山野に狩りする　剛毅の壮士\n猟銃肩に草鮭がけ　八里の岩根踏み破る\n斯くこそありけれ　近時の壮士\n「箱根八里」の歌詞は、「函谷関も物ならず」「万丈の山」「千初の谷」= 夫関に当るや万夫も開くなし」「蜀の桟道数ならず」等、いかにも明治うまれらしく漢詩漢文の影響を受けている。ふとしたことから、『新修漢文新制版巻二』(昭和十二年七月印刷昭和十六年八月修正印刷)を読んでいると、草場侃川(一七八八〜一八六七) の「山行示同志」詩に目が留まった。以下にその詩を挙げる。\n路入羊腸滑石苔　路羊腸に入りて　石苔滑らかに\n風従鮭底掃雲廻　風鮭底に従ひ　雲を掃ひて廻る\n登山恰似書生業　山に登るは　恰かも書生の業に似たり\n一歩歩高光景開　一歩歩高くして　光景開く\n一読、起句は「箱根入里」とそっくりである。これは偶然の一致とは考えにくい。鳥居枕が箱根の険を表現するときに、草場の詩を利用したことはあきらかであろう。承句の「掃雲廻」「鮭底」は「箱根八里」の「雲は山を廻り」「猟銃肩に草鮭がけ」に似通う。当時は先行作品を上手に利用するのが常套手段。寧ろ、いかに先行作品を利用するかが作者の腕の見せ所であった。また、「箱根入里」の出だしの「箱根の山は天下の険」は白楽天の「夜入崔唐峡」の冒頭「嬰唐天下険」を参考にしたものと考えられる。嬰唐峡の上流には、蜀の桟道がある。草場の詩は、山行に託して、学問は上達するに従い物の見方が広くなることを同志に説いたものであり、教訓的・勧学の詩であり、旧制中学生が学ぶにはまことにふさわしい教材と言えよう。「箱根八里」も『中学唱歌』に発表されたということは、旧制中学の唱歌の時間に歌われていたのであろう。明治期の極めて優秀な旧制中学生は、この唱歌を歌いながら草場の詩を想起していたであろう。唱歌を歌いながら、草場の詩を頭に思い描き、学問の深さに憧れ、上級の学校に進み学問の奥深さを早く体験したいと思っていたのではないか。","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_10002_publisher_24":{"attribute_name":"出版者(英)","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"Otemae
